The Market Research Society has issued guidance to members on undertaking face-to-face interviews in a post-COVID-19 period whilst social distancing is in place.
The guidance issued by the MRS introduces helpful new definitions and vocabulary (e.g. face coverings, PPE, clinically vulnerable people) to assist the planning and execution of interviews.
Whilst the MRS guidance focusses upon the many different ways that face to face research is undertaken, and doesn’t specifically refer to commercial research, the guidance still remains relevant.
In summary, the new guidance emphasises:
-
The importance of complying with relevant government guidance and Health & Safety advice
-
The need to carry out and discuss risk assessments
-
The design of the information collection process needs to be adapted to mitigate risk
-
The need to assess risks of passing on or becoming infected with COVID-19 during interviews
-
The steps to be taken during the interview process to mitigate risk
-
The handling of special category data (e.g. medical information)
-
How to manage actions after an interview
The MRS guidance is based upon UK law - readers of this blog will also need to take into account local laws and nationally agreed standards.
