ISO 9001:2015 is the international standard for quality management systems. It provides a framework for organisations to deliver services consistently, improve operational effectiveness and enhance client satisfaction. Acuigen first achieved ISO 9001 certification in 2010 and has maintained certification continuously since. This reflects our long‑standing commitment to quality, accountability and continual improvement across our research and technology operations.
What is ISO 9001?
ISO 9001 requires organisations to establish and operate a structured quality management system that supports:
- Consistent delivery of high‑quality products and services
- Engagement and accountability of people across the organisation
- A process‑driven approach to achieving consistent outcomes
- Continual improvement to enhance effectiveness and innovation
- Evidence‑based decision‑making through the analysis of data
- Effective relationship management with clients, suppliers and partners
The standard adopts a risk‑based approach, ensuring that quality objectives are embedded into governance, planning and day‑to‑day delivery.

ISO 9001, ISO 20252 and ISO 27001 - What’s the difference?
Our 3 ISO standards address different but complementary aspects of how we deliver quality, conduct research and protect information:
- ISO 9001 - A quality management standard focused on service delivery and continuous improvement. It uses a risk‑based approach to ensure services are delivered consistently and improved over time. Acuigen holds ISO 9001 certification across its research and software development/hosting activities.
- ISO 20252 - A prescriptive, best‑in‑class research standard. It defines specific methodological requirements depending on the research approach used. For example, it mandates minimum validation levels and quality controls for interviewer‑led research.
- ISO 27001 - An information security management standard, also based on risk assessment and mitigation. It establishes an Information Security Management System (ISMS) supported by approximately 93 controls (as set out in ISO 27002), covering people, organisational, physical and technological risks.
Together, these standards provide assurance across quality, research integrity and information security.
UKAS Accreditation - Why is it so important?
Our certification processes are accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS), the UK government‑appointed body responsible for assessing organisations that provide certification services. UKAS is also a signatory to international accreditation agreements, enabling the mutual recognition of certifications globally.
Only UKAS‑accredited certification bodies have been formally assessed by the UK’s national accreditation authority. Certification issued by non‑accredited bodies may not be subject to the same level of independent oversight or international recognition.
